Self-supporting duct systems

Hello,

I'm wondering how to classify certain duct systems where the actual isolation plate is bendable and is what creates the duct. Here is an example: https://www.isover-technical-insulation.com/hvac/applications/self-supporting-duct-systems-climaver

I haven't found a specific class for this, so in my opinion the closest one is EC010879 "Insulation blanket/-plate". What do you think?

Thanks very much,

Roberto

Clearly prefabricated glass wool ducts should be classified as EC010137 - Rectangular air duct. Assuming the Climaver is delivered as panels that are fabricated to the proper dimensions on the building site, the only class it could fit into now is EC010879 - Insulation blanket/-plate, but that does not feel right, even if you would add a feature "Suitable for air ducts". Then it would still be confusing if it is insulation for an existing duct or the insulation IS the duct. For now I would choose EC010137 - Rectangular air duct I guess, only then the dimension features do not fit. So a new class would be better eventually.

Hello,

I have finally decided to classify it as EC010879 - Insulation blanket/-plate, because these isolation plates can be used to construct not only rectangular ducts, but also rectangular air duct bends (which has a different class, EC010056), and other shapes. So classifying it only as rectangular air ducts wouldn't be correct either, so for now until there is no specific class I think the best option is to stay with EC010879 - Insulation blanket/-plate.

Video of the construction of a rectangular bend:

I think this is the best solution for now... what do you think?

Thanks very much,

I fully agree with your choice. If you look at the video, it is just an insulation plate and needs quite some work to fabricate a duct. Another logical feature to the class for this special application might be enough ...
